Detected in 1943 as a nova with a late-type spectrum (Mayall, 1949). Suspected of a symbiotic nature by Kenyon (1986). Also classified as a candidate V838 Mon-type system (Retter et al., 2006) and as a classical nova with an MS donor according to Mróz et al. (2015).
