Pallas chaotic orbit

Evolution of Pallas orbit a(t) during integration 2953-cp1, stable chaotic behavior due to 18:7 resonance with Jupiter (the nominal position of the resonance is marked by horizontal dashed line), 37 Myr. The red line below is Ceres.

Short time-span integration (300 kyr) of planets Mercury - Neptune and asteroids Ceres and Pallas, the same initial conditions as in above run 2953-cp1, integrator Burlisch - Stoer, graph mean a(t) (averaged over 500 yr) and critical angle of 18:7 mean motion jovian resonance (calculated from unfiltered osculating elements, output every 1 yr).
